In the middle of all the models of skis, snowboards and other equipment for winter sports, there is something to be lost.
To choose your skis well, you must first of all know what you want to do with your equipment and therefore be honest with your habits in the resort and your technical level. To do this, a few parameters are to be taken into account in order to determine what your new pair of skis will be.
What frequency of use: regular or occasional?
To decide between renting or buying ski equipment, you must take into account the annual frequency of your use and the length of your stay.
If you ski less than a week/year
Buying your ski equipment is not profitable. You will have to lug your skis on the road, maintain the soles, store equipment that can quickly become obsolete. Therefore, it is better to rent it.
You ski one to two weeks a year
For beginners, daredevils and those who like to change: renting your ski equipment is advantageous in case of a glitch, as it can be replaced very quickly and free of charge. What’s more, you can take advantage of a very recent model, as the renewal of the stock takes place every season. No maintenance costs, you can juggle with several types of skis (piste, off-piste, freestyle, skicross). For good skiers with a stable level, the purchase of skis can be profitable if the pair of skis is guaranteed to last from 3 to 10 years.
You ski more than two weeks a year
Buying your ski equipment is advisable: from 100 € per pair of skis to over 2 000 € with bindings, you can configure your skis as you wish. On the other hand, maintenance must be done regularly to get the best skis (waxing the soles, sharpening the coaches, sanding the surface). If they are not too damaged at the end of the season and you want to change them, don’t hesitate to put your old pair of skis on sale.
Where to buy cheaper ski equipment?
When buying your ski equipment, it is important to choose skis according to your level, your tastes and your morphology. Favour end-of-series offers and benefit from better prices. You can also take advantage of many second-hand sites offering last season’s equipment at much lower prices.
